Marmaris sits at the head of an almost enclosed bay on the Turkish Aegean, with three large marinas — Netsel by the castle, Yacht Marin and Marmaris Marina across the bay — and the second-largest charter fleet on the coast. The cruising ground runs both ways: north-west round the Bozburun peninsula to the Hisarönü gulf and Datça, or south-east to Ekincik, the Dalyan river and the Gulf of Fethiye. Dalaman airport is an hour and a half away.

Getting there
By air. Dalaman Airport (DLM) is about 95 km — an hour and a half by taxi or transfer; Bodrum-Milas (BJV) about 160 km. By ferry. Catamarans from Rhodes cross in an hour to the harbour by Netsel marina. By road and bus. Intercity coaches from Istanbul, Izmir and Antalya stop at the bus station 3 km from the harbour; paid parking at the marinas.
Marmaris before you cast off
The castle and the old quarter behind Netsel marina, the bazaar and the long waterfront; the Bozburun peninsula villages of Selimiye and Bozburun are the sailing destinations. Dalyan’s river, mud baths and Kaunos tombs are a day trip by road or by boat from Ekincik.
The market and supermarkets are within walking distance of Netsel; the marinas have supermarkets, chandlers and fuel docks.

Saturday — Marmaris → Çiftlik or Serçe Limanı (15 nm). South out of the bay to the beach bay of Çiftlik or the fjord-like Serçe.
Sunday — Serçe → Bozburun (15 nm). Round the peninsula’s tip to the gulet-building village of Bozburun.
Monday — Bozburun → Selimiye (8 nm). Into the Hisarönü gulf to the restaurant quays of Selimiye.
Tuesday — Selimiye → Datça (20 nm). West along the gulf to Datça’s harbour and the almond groves.
Wednesday — Datça → Knidos (18 nm). To the ancient city at the peninsula’s end; a night in its harbour.
