Provence is the stretch of coast west of the Riviera: Marseille and its calanques, the roadstead of Toulon, and the Îles d'Hyères lying off it. Bandol and Bormes-les-Mimosas cover Toulon and the islands, Saint-Mandrier sits on the roadstead itself, and Hyères is the gateway to Porquerolles and Port-Cros.
It is a shorter-hop coast than the Riviera and a less expensive one, with the same summer weather and the same mistral. June and September are the best months here too: warm sea, space in the harbours, and prices below the July and August peak.
