Sukošan is a village ten kilometres south of Zadar whose one marina, D-Marin Dalmacija, is the largest in Croatia and the biggest single charter base in the country. The fleet here is a weekly fleet: sailing yachts of 36 to 50 feet and a large catamaran contingent, laid out on pontoons that stretch across a whole bay, with the Zadar archipelago starting a few miles off the breakwater.
The base suits a first Croatian week better than almost anywhere: Ugljan and Pašman shelter the channel outside the marina, the Kornati are a day away, and the nearest airport is twenty minutes by road. Charters run Saturday to Saturday from April to October; July and August are busiest and the Kornati buoy fields fill early.

Getting there
By air. Zadar Airport (ZAD) at Zemunik is about 15 km away — 20 minutes by taxi or transfer. Split Airport (SPU) is roughly two hours by road for crews arriving on a Split flight. By road. The A1 motorway exit Zadar 2 (Zadar-istok) is 15 minutes from the marina; the marina has paid parking for the week, reserved through the charter company. By bus. Zadar bus station has coaches from Zagreb, Split and Ljubljana; local buses to Sukošan run every hour or so, a taxi takes 15 minutes.
Sukošan before you cast off
Sukošan itself is a quiet village with a church on the hill and a beach either side of the marina. Zadar is 15 minutes away by bus or taxi: the Roman forum, the sea organ and the Greeting to the Sun on the waterfront, and the old town’s cafés for the evening before departure. The Krka waterfalls and the Vrana lake nature park are half-day trips by car for crews arriving early.
A supermarket sits at the marina gate and larger ones in Sukošan and on the Zadar road; the marina has a bakery, a bar and restaurants on the waterfront. Fuel is on the marina’s own dock.
A week from Sukošan
Saturday — Sukošan → Ždrelac / Pašman channel (8 nm). Out of the marina and across to the Pašman channel for a first quiet night at Ždrelac or in one of the bays of Ugljan.
Sunday — Pašman → Telašćica, Dugi Otok (22 nm). South-west through the islands to the long inlet of Telašćica nature park; buoys in the bay, the cliffs and the salt lake a walk from the anchorage.
Monday — Telašćica → Kornati (12 nm). Into the Kornati national park: a permit is bought on entry; Levrnaka, Lopatica or Vrulje for the night with a restaurant pontoon or a buoy.
Tuesday — Kornati → Žut / Žinčena (10 nm). A short hop to the buoys and restaurants of Žut, the island outside the park where the anchorages are quieter and free.
Wednesday — Žut → Murter / Betina (14 nm). North-east to the Murter channel: marinas at Betina and Jezera, a supermarket run and a proper town for the evening.
Thursday — Murter → Sali, Dugi Otok or Iž (18 nm). Back north through the islands; Sali is a working fishing harbour, Veli Iž a village quay with a restaurant.
Friday — Iž → Sukošan (12 nm). A morning sail down the Ugljan channel to be back in the marina by the afternoon check-out window; refuel at the marina dock.
