Brittany is the one part of France where chartering means real navigation: strong tides, rock, fog and cooler water, sailed by crews who want it that way. The season runs May to September.
Arzon, at the tip of the Rhuys peninsula, holds the largest charter fleet in Brittany across two harbours — Port du Crouesty on the ocean side and Port-Navalo at the mouth of the Gulf of Morbihan. La Trinite-sur-Mer is the racing port next door. On the north coast, Saint-Quay-Portrieux has one of the few deep-water marinas reachable at any state of the tide, and Pléneuf-Val-André sits along the same bay.
The two coasts sail differently. The south is the Gulf of Morbihan and the islands off it; the north is the Channel, the pink-granite coast and the approaches to Saint-Malo.

By rail. Vannes and Auray serve the Gulf of Morbihan and Saint-Brieuc serves Saint-Quay, all on the Paris TGV. By road. The N165 runs the south coast from Nantes to Vannes and Lorient; the N12 serves Saint-Brieuc on the north.
Breton Coast before you cast off
The Gulf of Morbihan, an inland sea of some forty islands with tides that run hard through its mouth, and Vannes and its walled town at the head of it; Belle-Île, Houat and Hoëdic offshore; the standing stones at Carnac, 40 minutes from Arzon. On the north coast: the Île de Bréhat and the Trieux river west of Saint-Quay, the pink-granite coast at Perros-Guirec an hour away, and Saint-Malo and the Rance an hour and a half east.
Both main ports are resort towns with supermarkets, chandlers and fish markets at the marina. Crouesty and Saint-Quay provision a boat fully; the islands have a shop and a bar and little else.

Day rates on the boats listed here start from €128 and the typical boat is around €246 per day; a week (7 nights) starts from €899. Prices are the boats’ own listed rates; fuel, marina fees on the route and local taxes are paid separately.
What kinds of boats can I charter in Breton Coast?

Which marinas do charters leave from in Breton Coast?
Charters in Breton Coast leave from 4 bases: Port du Crouesty (41 boats), Port d'Armor (18 boats), Port de la Trinité-sur-Mer (9 boats), Port Dahouët (1 boat).
What is not in the price?
The figure is for the boat. Transit log, tourist tax and the APA are mandatory, set per boat, and paid at the base. Skipper, hostess, extra equipment and other services are optional and also settled at the base.
Why do some boats show no price?
9 of the 69 boats in Breton Coast are on request — usually larger or crewed yachts, where the rate depends on the week and the crew. They are left out of every figure above.
Do I need a licence to charter bareboat in France?
For a sailing yacht or a motorboat over 6 hp, yes: France recognises most national skipper licences, checked at handover. Small boats under 6 hp can be hired without one. Without a licence, a skipper is booked as an extra on the boat page.
What day do charters start?
Weekly charters run Saturday to Saturday: handover in the late afternoon and return to the base the evening before check-out at 9:00. Day charters start in the morning from the same pontoons.
Is the Gulf of Morbihan difficult to sail?
The tides run at up to 8 knots in the narrows at Port-Navalo, so the gulf is entered and left with the tide; inside, it is sheltered and shallow. A crew used to tidal waters manages; others take a skipper for the first days.
