Palma is the largest charter port in Spain: the bay of Palma has a dozen marinas along its waterfront, from the Moll Vell and La Lonja under the cathedral to the big yards at Portixol, Cala Nova and Port Adriano, with the airport fifteen minutes away. The fleet is sailing yachts, catamarans and motor yachts for the Balearic week — Mallorca can be circumnavigated in seven days, Menorca is a night’s sail east, Ibiza and Formentera a day south-west.

The season runs April to October; June and September are the sweet spot between warm water and August prices, and the buoy fields at Cabrera and the calas are booked online days ahead in high summer.

Getting there

By air. Palma Airport (PMI) is about 10 km from the city marinas — 15–20 minutes by taxi, with direct flights from across Europe all year. By ferry. Ferries from Barcelona, Valencia and Denia land at the port on the west side of the bay, ten minutes from the marinas. By road. The Ma-19 motorway from the airport; paid parking at the marinas, limited in the city ones.

Palma de Mallorca before you cast off

The cathedral and the Almudaina palace stand over the old harbour; the old town, the Passeig del Born and the Santa Catalina market are all within a walk of the city marinas. Bellver castle above the bay, the Tramuntana villages of Valldemossa and Deià an hour away, and the Sóller train from the city are the day before departure.

The Santa Catalina and Olivar markets are the places for fresh food; supermarkets are within a short walk of every city marina and deliver to the pontoon; the marinas have chandlers and fuel docks.

Which marinas do charters leave from in Palma de Mallorca?

Charters in Palma de Mallorca leave from 6 bases: La Lonja Marina Charter (67 boats), Marina Naviera Balear (14 boats), Palma (8 boats), Club de Mar (6 boats), Marina Palma Cuarentena (2 boats).

Can I take a boat out for just one day?

Yes — 7 boats here accept a single-day booking. A day rate is quoted for the specific boat and date, so pick your day on the boat’s own page and the price comes back live.

What is not in the price?

The figure is for the boat. Transit log, tourist tax and the APA are mandatory, set per boat, and paid at the base. Skipper, hostess, extra equipment and other services are optional and also settled at the base.

Why do some boats show no price?

49 of the 99 boats in Palma de Mallorca are on request — usually larger or crewed yachts, where the rate depends on the week and the crew. They are left out of every figure above.

How far is the airport from Palma de Mallorca?

The nearest airport is Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI), about 10 km away as the crow flies; Ibiza Airport (IBZ) is about 135 km. Transfer times by road are longer; most charter companies arrange a transfer to the base on request.

Do I need a licence to charter bareboat in Spain?

For a sailing yacht or a larger motorboat, yes: Spain accepts most national skipper licences, checked at handover, though the rules are applied differently from port to port. Small motorboats under 15 hp can be hired without one. Without a licence, a skipper is booked as an extra on the boat page.

What day do charters start?

Weekly charters run Saturday to Saturday: handover in the late afternoon and return to the base the evening before check-out at 9:00. Day charters start in the morning from the same pontoons.

Can we anchor anywhere in the Balearics?

No — posidonia seagrass is protected across the islands, so anchoring is on sand patches or the buoy fields (booked online), and the rangers check. Fines for anchoring on seagrass are real.

Where can I sail in a week from Palma?

Round Mallorca — Andratx, Sóller, Pollença, Alcúdia and the east-coast harbours — with Cabrera national park to the south; or across to Menorca (a night’s sail) or Ibiza and Formentera (a day) for a two-island week.
