Getting there

By air. Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) at Čilipi is about 25 km from the marina — 35–45 minutes by taxi or transfer along the coast and up the inlet. By road. The coast road from Split takes about three hours, with the Pelješac bridge now avoiding the Bosnian border. Paid parking inside the marina for the week. By ferry and bus. Jadrolinija ferries from Bari and the islands, and coaches from Split, land at Gruž; the marina is 5 km up the inlet by taxi or bus.

Dubrovnik before you cast off

The walled city needs no introduction: the two-kilometre circuit of the walls is the thing to do, early or late to avoid the cruise crowds, then the Stradun, the Rector’s Palace and the old harbour. Lokrum island is ten minutes by boat from the old harbour. The marina at Komolac is a 15-minute bus ride from the walls.

A supermarket is next to the marina at Komolac and larger ones in Gruž; the green market in Gruž is the place for fresh food on Saturday morning. Fuel is on the marina dock.

Saturday — Komolac → Lopud or Šipan, Elaphiti (10 nm). Down the inlet, past the old town and out to the Elaphiti islands: buoys off Lopud’s beach or the quay at Šipanska Luka.

Sunday — Šipan → Polače, Mljet (18 nm). West along Mljet to the national park: buoys at Polače, the salt lakes and the monastery island by bike or on foot.

Monday — Mljet → Korčula town (16 nm). Across the channel to Korčula’s walled town; the ACI marina under the walls or the buoys in the bay to the east.

Tuesday — Korčula → Lastovo (20 nm). South to the remote Lastovo archipelago, a nature park with a village quay at Ubli and empty bays.

Wednesday — Lastovo → Pomena, Mljet (24 nm). Back north-east to Mljet’s western village, restaurant pontoons and the lakes a walk away.

Thursday — Pomena → Ston, Pelješac (22 nm). Into the Ston channel for the oysters of Mali Ston and the salt-pan town under its walls.

Friday — Ston → Komolac (28 nm). The long leg home along the Elaphiti with a last swim at Koločep; up the inlet to the marina by late afternoon.
