Split — at a glance

245 boats are available to book in Split from 7 bases; the largest are ACI Marina Split (163), Port of Split / West Harbour (44), Port of Split / East Harbour (25). The fleet is 113 sailing boats, 40 catamarans, 36 motor yachts, 27 motor boats, 20 gulets, 5 motorsailers and 3 cruisers. The most common models are Oceanis 46.1 (9), Elan Impression 45 (8), Luxury Sailing Yacht (7), ClubSwan 36 (6), Bavaria Cruiser 46 (6) — 109 models in all. Built 1950–2027, 0.1–55 m long, 1–20 cabins, up to 38 guests. Day rates start from €89; the typical boat here is around €353 per day, and every price on this page is the boat’s own listed rate before extras.

Split is the largest charter port in the Adriatic and the natural start of a Dalmatian week: Brač, Šolta, Hvar, Vis and the Pakleni islands are all within two to four hours of the harbour, so a crew that arrives on Saturday afternoon is anchored off an island by Sunday lunch. The fleets are spread across the west side of the harbour (ACI Marina Split and the Matejuška quay), the ferry-port side to the east, and Marina Zenta, Špinut and the Marine Club in the northern bays.

Charters here run Saturday to Saturday from April to October, with June and September the months experienced crews pick: warm sea, room on the quays in the evening and prices well below high summer. Day charters, mostly on motorboats and RIBs, run from the same pontoons all season.

Getting there

By air. Split Airport (SPU) at Kaštela is 25 km from the harbour by road: 30–40 minutes by taxi or pre-booked transfer, or the airport bus to the main bus station beside the ferry port. By rail and bus. Split railway station and the main bus station share the ferry-port forecourt on the east side of the harbour; the marinas on the west side are 1.5 km along the waterfront. By car. The A1 motorway ends at Dugopolje, 20 minutes from the harbour; follow signs for the port. Weekly parking inside the marinas is limited and reserved through the charter company; public garages are in the city. By ferry. Jadrolinija and Krilo catamarans from the islands, and the overnight ferry from Ancona, land at the ferry port opposite the marinas.

Split before you cast off

Everything worth seeing is within a walk of the harbour. Diocletian’s Palace is the old town itself: the Peristyle, the cathedral tower and the cellars, then the Riva for coffee. Marjan hill starts a few hundred metres west of the marina — the path up gives the best view of the harbour and the islands you will be sailing to. Bačvice is the city beach, ten minutes east of the ferry port. For dinner near the boats, the restaurants along the Matejuška fishing harbour sit between the marina and the Riva.

The green market (Pazar) and the fish market, both beside the palace, are the places to provision fresh on Saturday morning; supermarkets are within ten minutes of every base and the larger ones deliver to the pontoon. Fuel is at the dock by the harbour entrance on the west side.

A week from Split

Saturday — Split → Milna, Brač (12 nm). A short first leg to settle in: the sheltered harbour of Milna has a marina and a quay, and the afternoon maestral pushes you across the channel.

Sunday — Milna → Hvar / Palmižana (16 nm). Round the west cape of Brač to the Pakleni islands. Anchor or take a buoy at Palmižana, water-taxi into Hvar town for the evening.

Monday — Pakleni → Vis (18 nm). The longest open-water leg of the week. Vis town or Komiža; the Blue Cave on Biševo is a morning trip from Komiža.

Tuesday — Vis → Stari Grad, Hvar (22 nm). Back north into the long, calm inlet of Stari Grad, one of the oldest towns in the Adriatic.

Wednesday — Stari Grad → Bol, Brač (10 nm). Zlatni Rat beach and the windsurfing channel between Brač and Hvar; buoys and a small harbour at Bol.

Thursday — Bol → Maslinica, Šolta (18 nm). The quiet side of the week: Maslinica’s marina and the bays on Šolta’s west coast.

Friday — Šolta → Split (10 nm). An easy return to be in the marina by the afternoon check-out window; refuel at the harbour-entrance dock on the way in.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a yacht charter in Split cost?

Day rates on the boats listed here start from €89 and the typical boat is around €353 per day; a week (7 nights) starts from €629. Prices are the boats’ own listed rates; fuel, marina fees on the route and local taxes are paid separately.

What kinds of boats can I charter in Split?

245 boats are available to book in Split: 113 sailing boats, 40 catamarans, 36 motor yachts, 27 motor boats, 20 gulets, 5 motorsailers and 3 cruisers. The most common models are Oceanis 46.1, Elan Impression 45, Luxury Sailing Yacht, ClubSwan 36.

Which marinas do charters leave from in Split?

Charters in Split leave from 7 bases: ACI Marina Split (163 boats), Port of Split / West Harbour (44 boats), Port of Split / East Harbour (25 boats), Marina Zenta (8 boats), MCI Marine Club International (3 boats).

Can I take a boat out for just one day?

Yes — 28 boats here accept a single-day booking, and 31 take two days. A day rate is quoted for the specific boat and date, so pick your day on the boat’s own page and the price comes back live.

What is not in the price?

The figure is for the boat. Transit log, tourist tax and the APA are mandatory, set per boat, and paid at the base. Skipper, hostess, extra equipment and other services are optional and also settled at the base.

Why do some boats show no price?

99 of the 245 boats in Split are on request — usually larger or crewed yachts, where the rate depends on the week and the crew. They are left out of every figure above.

How far is the airport from Split?

The nearest airport is Split Airport (SPU), about 10 km away as the crow flies; Brač Airport (BWK) is about 30 km. Transfer times by road are longer; most charter companies arrange a transfer to the base on request.

Do I need a licence to charter bareboat in Croatia?

Yes. Croatia requires a skipper’s licence recognised by the Croatian authorities plus a VHF radio certificate; both are checked at the base before departure. Without them, a skipper is booked as an extra on the boat page and joins you at the marina.

What day do charters start?

Weekly charters run Saturday to Saturday. Boats are handed over from 17:00 on Saturday and returned by 9:00 the following Saturday; day charters start in the morning from the same pontoons.

Where can I sail in a week from Split?

Brač, Šolta, Hvar, Vis and the Pakleni islands are all within two to four hours; a typical week is Milna, Palmižana, Vis, Stari Grad, Bol and Maslinica, returning on Friday.

Can I stay on the boat the night before departure?

On most boats an early check-in with Friday night aboard can be added as an extra when booking; ask on the boat page.
