Kos is the charter base of the Dodecanese: Kos Marina, a modern full-service marina on the edge of the town, is fifteen minutes from the airport and looks across a two-mile strait to Turkey. The cruising ground is the eastern islands — Kalymnos, Leros, Patmos and Lipsi to the north, Nisyros, Tilos and Symi to the south — with Bodrum and the Turkish coast a customs stop away.
The meltemi reaches the Dodecanese weaker than the central Cyclades and the islands are close together; June to September is the season, and the harbours are quieter than the Cyclades in August.

Getting there
By air. Kos Airport (KGS) is about 25 km from the marina — 25–30 minutes by taxi or transfer, with direct summer flights from across Europe. By ferry. Ferries from Piraeus, Rhodes and the Dodecanese islands land at Kos harbour, a short taxi from the marina; the Bodrum ferry crosses in under an hour.
Kos before you cast off
Kos town is a Hellenistic and Venetian town around a harbour: the Knights’ castle at the harbour mouth, the ancient agora, the plane tree of Hippocrates and the Asklepieion sanctuary on the hill 4 km out. The marina is a fifteen-minute walk along the shore from the harbour front and its cafés.
Supermarkets on the road behind the marina and in the town; the marina has a mini-market, chandlery, restaurants and a fuel dock.

Which marinas do charters leave from in Kos?
Charters in Kos leave from 2 bases: Marina Kos (139 boats), Kos Port (7 boats).
What is not in the price?
The figure is for the boat. Transit log, tourist tax and the APA are mandatory, set per boat, and paid at the base. Skipper, hostess, extra equipment and other services are optional and also settled at the base.
Why do some boats show no price?
35 of the 146 boats in Kos are on request — usually larger or crewed yachts, where the rate depends on the week and the crew. They are left out of every figure above.
How far is the airport from Kos?
The nearest airport is Kos Airport (KGS), about 20 km away as the crow flies; Bodrum-Milas Airport (BJV) is about 50 km. Transfer times by road are longer; most charter companies arrange a transfer to the base on request.
Do I need a licence to charter bareboat in Greece?
Yes. Greek rules require a recognised skipper’s certificate and a second crew member with sailing experience declared on the crew list; the base checks the papers at handover. Without them, a skipper is booked as an extra on the boat page.
What day do charters start?
Weekly charters run Saturday to Saturday: handover from 17:00 on Saturday, return to the base by the evening before and check-out by 9:00 on Saturday morning. Day charters start in the morning from the same quays.
Can we sail to Turkey from Kos?
Bodrum is two hours away, but leaving Greece needs the charter company’s permission in advance and customs clearance in both countries; most crews stay in the Dodecanese for a week.
