Lefkada is the Ionian’s charter capital: the town marina and the port quay on the canal at the island’s northern tip hold the second-largest fleet in Greece, and Nikiana, Nydri and Vlicho down the east coast add more. The island is joined to the mainland by a floating bridge, so there is no ferry, and Preveza airport is thirty minutes away.
The inland sea between Lefkada, Meganisi, Kalamos, Ithaca and Kefalonia is the classic first-charter week: short legs, an afternoon breeze that dies at dusk, lines-ashore bays and a village quay every night, and no meltemi. The season runs April to October; July and August are busy but never rough.

Getting there
By air. Preveza (Aktion) Airport (PVK) is about 20 km from Lefkada town — 25–30 minutes by taxi across the floating bridge. Corfu and Athens are the alternatives, with a longer transfer or a coach. By road. From Athens about four and a half hours via the Rio–Antirrio bridge and the Ionian motorway; the island is reached over the floating bridge at its northern tip. Parking at the marina for the week is arranged through the charter company. By bus. KTEL coaches from Athens and Preveza stop at Lefkada town’s bus station, a short walk from the marina.
Lefkada before you cast off
Lefkada town is a low, earthquake-proof town of wooden upper storeys and a long pedestrian street from the canal to the main square; the marina is at its southern edge. On the island’s west coast the beaches of Egremni, Porto Katsiki and Kathisma are the ones in the photographs, an hour by road. Nydri’s waterfalls and the Dimosari gorge are a short trip inland from the east-coast bases.
Supermarkets in town within walking distance of the marina, and a large one on the road out; the marina has a mini-market, chandlery and a fuel dock. Nydri and Nikiana have supermarkets on the waterfront for the east-coast bases.

How far is the airport from Lefkada?
The nearest airport is Preveza (Aktion) Airport (PVK), about 10 km away as the crow flies; Kefalonia Airport (EFL) is about 80 km. Transfer times by road are longer; most charter companies arrange a transfer to the base on request.
Do I need a licence to charter bareboat in Greece?
Yes. Greek rules require a recognised skipper’s certificate and a second crew member with sailing experience declared on the crew list; the base checks the papers at handover. Without them, a skipper is booked as an extra on the boat page.
What day do charters start?
Weekly charters run Saturday to Saturday: handover from 17:00 on Saturday, return to the base by the evening before and check-out by 9:00 on Saturday morning. Day charters start in the morning from the same quays.
Is Lefkada good for a first charter?
It is the week most charter companies recommend to first-time crews: the islands are close together, the afternoon breeze is moderate and drops at sunset, and the anchorages are lines-ashore bays and village quays rather than open roadsteads.
Do I need a ferry to reach Lefkada?
No. A floating bridge joins the island to the mainland, and Preveza airport is 30 minutes from the town marina.
