Athens has the largest charter fleet in the Mediterranean, and almost all of it is at Alimos Marina on the coast south of the city, twenty minutes from the centre and thirty-five from the airport. The cruising ground is the Saronic gulf and the Argolic coast: Aegina, Poros, Hydra, Spetses and the Peloponnese harbours, each an easy day apart, sheltered from the meltemi by the mainland — the gentlest week in Greece and the one first-time crews are sent on.
Charters run Saturday to Saturday from April to October; the Cyclades are reachable from Athens on a two-week charter or by crews prepared for the meltemi in July and August. Day charters run from the same marina to Aegina and the Athens Riviera.

Getting there
By air. Athens Airport (ATH) is about 35 km from Alimos — 35–45 minutes by taxi or transfer along the Attiki Odos and the coast; the X96 express bus runs from the airport along the coast road past the marina. By metro and tram. The tram from Syntagma square runs along the coast to the Kalamaki stop opposite the marina; the metro reaches Piraeus and the airport. By road. The marina is on Poseidonos avenue in Alimos; parking inside the marina is paid and limited in season, arranged through the charter company.
Athens before you cast off
The Acropolis and its museum, the Plaka and the Ancient Agora are half a day from the marina by tram and metro; Sounion’s temple of Poseidon, on the cape the boats round to the Cyclades, is an hour down the coast by road. The Athens Riviera between Alimos and Vouliagmeni has the beaches and the evening restaurants. Piraeus, the ferry port, is fifteen minutes north of the marina.
Supermarkets are across the coast road from Alimos and the larger ones deliver to the marina gate; the marina has chandlers, cafés and a fuel station on the quay. The central market in Athens is the place for fresh fish and meat if the crew has a morning.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a yacht charter in Athens cost?
Day rates on the boats listed here start from €131 and the typical boat is around €415 per day; a week (7 nights) starts from €917. Prices are the boats’ own listed rates; fuel, marina fees on the route and local taxes are paid separately.
What kinds of boats can I charter in Athens?
827 boats are available to book in Athens: 503 sailing boats, 293 catamarans, 19 motor yachts, 6 gulets, 3 motor boats, 2 motorsailers and 1 RIB. The most common models are Oceanis 46.1, Lagoon 46, Lagoon 42, Oceanis 51.1.
Which marinas do charters leave from in Athens?
Charters in Athens leave from 2 bases: Alimos Marina (794 boats), Marina Delta Kallithea (33 boats).
Can I take a boat out for just one day?
Yes — 48 boats here accept a single-day booking. A day rate is quoted for the specific boat and date, so pick your day on the boat’s own page and the price comes back live.
What is not in the price?
The figure is for the boat. Transit log, tourist tax and the APA are mandatory, set per boat, and paid at the base. Skipper, hostess, extra equipment and other services are optional and also settled at the base.
Why do some boats show no price?
164 of the 827 boats in Athens are on request — usually larger or crewed yachts, where the rate depends on the week and the crew. They are left out of every figure above.
How far is the airport from Athens?
The nearest airport is Athens Airport (ATH), about 20 km away as the crow flies; Skiathos Airport (JSI) is about 140 km. Transfer times by road are longer; most charter companies arrange a transfer to the base on request.
Do I need a licence to charter bareboat in Greece?
Yes. Greek rules require a recognised skipper’s certificate and a second crew member with sailing experience declared on the crew list; the base checks the papers at handover. Without them, a skipper is booked as an extra on the boat page.
What day do charters start?
Weekly charters run Saturday to Saturday: handover from 17:00 on Saturday, return to the base by the evening before and check-out by 9:00 on Saturday morning. Day charters start in the morning from the same quays.
Where can I sail in a week from Athens?
The Saronic gulf: Aegina, Poros, Hydra and Spetses are each a few hours apart with a harbour town every night, and the Argolic coast of the Peloponnese beyond them. The Cyclades need two weeks or a strong crew in the meltemi season.
Is the meltemi a problem from Athens?
Hardly in the Saronic, which the mainland shelters; it matters once you pass Sounion into the Cyclades, where July and August bring force six to seven for days at a time.
