Motor boats in France
Motor boats are the largest part of the French fleet, split between the Riviera and the canals. On the coast the day boats leave Antibes, Cannes, Nice, Saint-Tropez and Marseille for the Îles de Lérins, Cap d'Antibes, the Estérel and the Calanques, and Corsica hires RIBs from Ajaccio, Bonifacio and Calvi. France requires a licence for anything over six horsepower, so most Riviera boats go with a skipper. The inland fleet is the licence-free cruisers of the Canal du Midi, Burgundy, Brittany and the Charente, hired by the week.
Coastal prices are per day, fuel on top; canal boats are per week with a briefing at the base and no licence.
