Gulets in Turkey
The gulet is Turkey's boat: a crewed wooden motorsailer of 18 to 40 metres, built in Bodrum and Marmaris and chartered whole or by the cabin for a blue cruise along the coast. Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye and Göcek are the bases; the classic routes are the Gulf of Gökova from Bodrum, Marmaris to Fethiye, and Fethiye to Kekova along the Lycian coast, with a swim in a new bay every morning and a harbour or an anchorage every night. Captain, cook and deckhand come with the boat, full or half board is included, and the crew premium is small because crewed is the norm.
Cabins run from four on the small boats to twelve or more on the largest, all with their own bathroom; standard, deluxe and luxury are the market's own grades and the difference is real. The season is April to October, and July and August on the best boats are gone by spring.
