Sailing boats in Turkey
Sailing in Turkey is the Carian and Lycian coast: Marmaris, Göcek, Fethiye and Bodrum, with smaller bases at Orhaniye and Kaş. The season runs from April to October, longer than most of the Mediterranean, and the summer wind is a sea breeze that builds after noon and rarely reaches the force of the Greek meltemi across the strait. The Gulf of Gökova from Bodrum, the Hisarönü gulf from Marmaris and the bays of Göcek are each a week of sheltered water, restaurant pontoons that charge nothing if you eat, and few open passages.
Bareboat needs a recognised licence; the transit log, the permit every charter boat carries, is paid at the base. Crossing to the Greek Dodecanese mid-charter is possible only with the operator's agreement and customs both ways. The fleet is Bavaria, Beneteau, Jeanneau and Dufour from 36 to 50 feet.
