Sailing boats in Croatia
Croatia has the largest bareboat sailing fleet in the Mediterranean, and most of it is in central Dalmatia: Sukošan, Kaštela, Trogir and Split between them hold more than half the boats on this page. Charters run Saturday to Saturday from May to October. The islands are close, the summer wind is a sea breeze that builds after lunch, and every marina and most harbour quays moor stern-to with lazy lines, so the week is short passages, afternoon sailing and an evening in a town or a buoy field.
Bareboat needs a skipper's licence that Croatia recognises and a VHF certificate; both are checked at the base and there is no way round it. The fleet is Bavaria, Beneteau Oceanis, Jeanneau Sun Odyssey, Dufour, Hanse and Elan, mostly 36 to 50 feet and three to five cabins, with newer boats at Kaštela and Trogir. Prices are per week without fuel, marina fees or the tourist tax, and a deposit is held against the boat.
