Catamarans in Greece
Catamarans in Greece cluster in the Ionian and around Athens, where the sheltered water suits them: Lefkada, Preveza and Corfu for the islands between Corfu and Zakynthos; Alimos and Lavrion for the Saronic gulf and the Cyclades. In the Cyclades in high summer the meltemi makes a catamaran's windage and shallow rudders a handful in harbour, which is why most Cycladic charters on multihulls go with a skipper. Lagoon, Bali, Fountaine Pajot and Nautitech from 40 to 52 feet make up nearly the whole fleet.
Stern-to mooring with an anchor is the norm, so a crew new to it should book a skipper at least for the first days. Prices are per week without fuel, water and port fees; Greek marinas are cheap by Mediterranean standards and most nights are on a town quay.
